A-FOUNDATION DESIGN DEPARTMENT NOW MORE VERSATILE

rakennesuunnittelu a-perustus

In May, A-Perustus strengthened its structural design with the addition of two people. Previously focused on concrete construction, the structural design has been developed into a more holistic structural design, which is believed to better serve the needs of clients.

The reinforcement of the planning department will also allow for the preparation of structural plans as a separate service. "In the past, we have almost invariably only drawn up plans for those projects that we have actually carried out ourselves," says Head of Planning Harri Vänttilä comment. "Now we can also carry out the design for the client without any other commitments," Vänttilä continues.

The design department brings together strong professionals from the industrial and public construction sectors, where solid structures and precast concrete design have played a major role. Increased resources in structural design mean that larger projects can now be designed more than in the past. The client no longer needs several different designers, as everything they need can be found in one building.

A-Perustus uses modern calculation and design software in its structural design. For example, 3D drawings are useful on site and during the civil engineering phase. This is another area where new expertise is being brought in, especially for more demanding projects.

Structural design plays an important role in the cost aspect of projects. A professional designer is therefore literally worth his weight in gold, as savings are often easiest to make at the designer's desk. "Unnecessary over-engineering and, in particular, making designs efficient from a production point of view can bring significant savings to the project. Our new designers have a site background, so they also have an insight into production issues," says Vänttilä.

The construction sector, like other sectors, is paying more and more attention to green values. A-Perustus has been addressing this issue for some time now, as the carbon footprint of concrete and steel has been a topic of discussion for some time. "In today's world, minimising the carbon footprint is under the microscope at every stage of construction and structural design is key to this," Vänttilä comments.

"Our new designers will be able to get involved on the fly, so to speak, to make a difference for greener construction," concludes Vänttilä.
