Friday summary is flying

"Was this group going to Munich?" The well-scheduled and much anticipated BAU trade fair trip to Bavaria's trade fair capital. It was Sunday night and the first flights were not until Tuesday morning.

"I don't have a passport anyway...Teemu hadn't booked his flights...and Janne can't come either...Should we ask Harri to take his place...yeah, good idea! Although Harri doesn't have a passport either, and never has. Sami is silent, but will show up at the airport on time. He's a decent guy.

Years of growth have taught you how to survive and agility has become part of your identity. There's still plenty of time to get your passport photo taken on Sunday evening and to go to the police station first thing Monday morning to identify yourself. No more than a passport in the press and in the evening, the passports, dripping with fresh ink, will be waiting for you on the Ärra. That's Finland for you, and a good thing too.

"How about accommodation at your destination?" "A couple of weeks ago there were very good hotels. I didn't have time to book then. Tomorrow, I'm sure I'll have time by the evening." Not a big deal. Although there's a Champions League game and a few other events in town at the same time. The hotels seemed to be fully booked. Oh, and Monday night was a nice night for sleeping the kids. The excitement was there too, and I didn't have time to arrange any hotels. Eventually accommodation was secured in the middle of the night and we made it to the down country before the small hours.

One of the most important lessons learned last year was the tools for managing your own work, with a Friday summary. The system is all based on the fact that tasks are listed and calendared week by week. The most important moment of each week is the Friday summary, i.e. 90 minutes for yourself. Its purpose is to lift even the most exhausted fighter out of the jungle of variables and let him or her go into the weekend with confidence. This time it's a blip. Each to his own.

In the recent strategy, agility as a value was replaced by fun. Fun is an asset. An inordinate amount of time can and should be spent cultivating humour. The other values are care, openness and firmness.

With blue and white wings, I was able to put these coincidences together into a story. Next up, Munchen.
