Anfra Oy has completed the extensive foundation work for the battery materials factory in Kotka. The project is exceptional in scale in Finland and will strengthen the country's position in the battery industry value chain, bringing jobs, investment and export revenues to the region.
The battery factory to be built in Kotka is one of the most significant industrial investments in Finland today. Industrial and infrastructure developer Anfra Oy has completed the foundation works, which cover an area of around 2.7 hectares. The main contractor on the project is China Harbour Engineering Company Limited, Finnish branch.
Anfra's contract included the earthworks, drainage and foundations of the factory site. A total of around 10 000 cubic metres of concrete and almost 800 tonnes of steel were used for the foundations.
"The factory project is progressing well and the foundation works were completed on schedule. Cooperation with the other contractors has been very smooth," says Anfra's project salesman Riku Pitkälä.
This is a strategically important investment that, when completed, will employ nearly 300 people and significantly increase Finnish exports. The battery plant will strengthen Finland's role in the green transition and as part of the battery value chain.
The effects are already visible in Kymenlaakso: the construction phase will employ hundreds of professionals, and the completion of the plant will increase the attractiveness of the region, jobs and further investment.
