We are proud to announce that Anfra has joined the Finnish Data Center Associationin (FDCA) . We bring our robust expertise in foundations and comprehensive mission-critical infrastructure contracting to this rapidly expanding sector, offering rapid site mobilization, even within a tight two-week timeframe.
Data centers have swiftly become the most mission-critical infrastructure of our modern digital society. The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence and the exponential growth of cloud services demand unprecedented capacity and absolute operational reliability from these facilities.
At Anfra, we are committed to being at the forefront of this development. The FDCA unites key stakeholders in the Finnish data center ecosystem, with the shared goal of strengthening Finland’s position as a highly attractive and sustainable hub for data center investments. We are ready to provide concrete support for this mission directly from the construction site.
"In data center construction, project schedules are invariably tight, and quality requirements are extreme. As an FDCA member, we gain a valuable networking platform and can offer our heavy infrastructure expertise directly to developers. Our mission is to ensure that the physical foundation of these data centers remains unshakable for decades," states Tomi Puoskari, CEO of Anfra..
A Single-Point-of-Contact Model and Agile Mobilization
Our operational approach in the data center market is built on a turnkey service model where a single contractor manages the entire chain of earthworks and concrete construction. Our most significant competitive advantage is our ability to break ground quickly: we can mobilize a site within just two weeks of signing the contract. This delivers essential flexibility to the often rigid and highly compressed project timelines of data center investments.
In data center projects, our comprehensive delivery scope typically includes geotechnical and structural engineering, massive earthworks, critical cast-in-place concrete structures and foundations, as well as high-level site perimeter security solutions, such as access control and High-Security fencing.
Energy infrastructure is another fundamental component of data center ecosystems. We build tailored solutions for data centers, covering both traditional and space-saving GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear)substations , as well as massive BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems).
Ultimately, our extensive and versatile experience in energy and industrial infrastructure construction, combined with our in-house structural engineering capabilities, is our true competitive edge. This synergy is what enables rapid mobilizations, uncompromising quality, and seamless end-to-end deliveries.
Safety, Security, and Meticulous Documentation at the Core
Working on international data center projects differs significantly from traditional domestic construction. Strict non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) are standard practice, and continuous quality assurance is mandatory.
All our operations are audited and certified according to ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001 standards. We document every phase of our work with millimeter precision, ensuring that highly sensitive IT equipment and data connections have a flawlessly constructed base. Naturally, we also prioritize minimizing the project's carbon footprint through material-efficient engineering and the utilization of low-emission concrete blends.
"We are not just laying foundations; we are building the lifecycle of mission-critical infrastructure. When earthworks and concrete construction are handled seamlessly under one roof by Anfra's experts, the client eliminates interface risks, and the project stays strictly on schedule," Tomi Puoskari summarizes.
Data Center Construction Glossary
The infrastructure construction of data centers introduces specialized terminology, even for seasoned construction professionals. To provide clarity, we have compiled a list of key industry terms used in this article:
Mission-Critical Infrastructure: Physical structures and systems that are essential for the fundamental operation of society. Data centers host and maintain vital services, including banking platforms, healthcare systems, and global communication networks.
Mobilization Time: The timeframe from the signing of the contracting agreement to the exact moment our personnel and heavy machinery are physically on-site, fully operational, and ready to commence work.
GIS Substation (Gas Insulated Switchgear): A highly compact electrical substation that requires significantly less space than a traditional air-insulated switchgear. Due to their reduced footprint, they are frequently deployed in the confined spaces of data centers or even underground in rock caverns.
BESS (Battery Energy Storage System): Large-scale, grid-connected battery storage units utilized by data centers to balance power grid frequencies and secure uninterrupted backup power during potential grid disturbances.
