Anfralaatta® is a cheaper and more environmentally friendly way to create large concrete floors

The oversizing of concrete structures, which is unfortunately typical of the concrete industry, creates unnecessary costs for the client and significantly increases carbon dioxide emissions. As a responsible partner to our customers, and with minimising environmental impact being the key element of our ISO 14001 environmental management system, we have launched Anfralaatan®. It is an optimised way we have developed to make large load-bearing concrete slabs in an all-round sustainable way.

Typically, these are floors in industrial halls, retail premises, logistics centres or similar buildings. The usual way to create a large concrete floor is to make it identical throughout. When the design does not take into account the local point loads on different parts of the floor area or the changing ground conditions over a large building, the entire piled concrete slab is made with the same specifications. The slab strength, reinforcement, concrete quality and pile distribution will be implemented in the same way for the whole area.

In our view, the industry lacks a genuine desire and skill to optimise structures and structures are becoming heavier than necessary, both for steel and concrete. We want to change this by boldly leading the way, showing the way for the whole industry. To support this goal, we enable the commissioning of optimised Anfralaatta® designs, so that the client can tender freely without any commitment to commissioning the work from us.

Up to 20 % savings on a large concrete floor?

The focus is on structural design skills. The design of Anfralaatan® is more precise than a conventional solution, and therefore more labour-intensive. However, the design makes extensive use of sophisticated automation, which compensates for the cost of the more precise design work. Through accurate design and innovative technical solutions developed by Anfra, the quantity, strength and robustness of materials are optimised to achieve cost savings of up to €200,000 for a 10,000 m² piled floor, for example.

The Anfrarieska® reinforcement element we developed, which is installed at the pile, improves the piercing resistance of the slab so that the number of piles can be reduced by up to 20 %. By precisely optimizing the placement of the reinforcement according to the stresses and by using fibre concrete and the Anfrasauma® solution, the reinforcement requirement is reduced by about 20 %. This means that reinforcement is only used where it is really needed. With Anfraasaumaat®, both the strength of the concrete and the strength of the slab are determined by the stresses.

Significantly lower carbon dioxide emissions

Cement production produces huge carbon emissions, which is why the concrete construction industry must constantly work towards a greener future. At Anfra, we want to be a concrete builder worthy of our environment and this has been a strong incentive for us in the development of Anfralaatan®.

The carbon footprint of Anfralaatan® is significantly lower than conventional piling, with approximately 20 % less piles and steel required than a conventional solution. Also, with an optimised design (slab thickness), concrete consumption is on average 20 % lower, reducing the environmental impact of cement.
